Planning and Investing

We often describe what we do as the beginning of a very long road trip.  There are two huge decisions you need to make before you begin your journey:

  • What vehicle makes the most sense for you?
  • What specific directions are the most efficient for your journey?

First, determining the proper vehicle is critical because it will deliver the moment-to-moment experience during the drive.  Would you rather have something with a lot of horsepower that can go fast, or rather something with more safety features?  The ride will go a long way to determining how comfortable the ride is.  This is the same concept as building out your investment portfolio.  Constructing a portfolio that is comfortable, understandable, and in line with your goals is the first step in your journey.

                                                               Vs.

Secondly, there on road trips there are no straight lines from where you are to where you're going.  You have to navigate the infrastructure that is in place and use directions that take into account traffic patterns, time of day, construction and delays, and the most direct path possible.  This is the same idea behind financial planning.  Working with the retirement, estate or tax planning infrastructures are necessary to make sure that the most direct path is taken along your journey.

                                                                   Vs.

If you asked someone how you should drive to Washington D.C. and they said "go rent and car and head east" there is a good chance you end up in a Yaris and in Jacksonville, FL.  The advice was not wrong... but it lacked detail and specifics to have a reasonable chance at sucess.

We believe striving that optimal investing and planning outcomes require dedication and a goals-oriented pursuit of your future.  Constructing your vehicle, or portfolio, and thoughtfully crafting your roadmap, or financial plan, is ongoing endeavor that we would love to work together on.
